Welcome to My Website!

My name is Rich Gibson and I play guitar & pedal steel guitar. I also double on dobro and 5 string banjo.

2016 has been a year of transitions for me.While I am still teaching at CAPA both of my steady performing gigs had come too an end.

I was very fortunate to play with The Mavens for the last year of their 10 year rein as the tri states premier western swing/honytonk band.A very rewarding experience and i even learned a few things about country lead guitar.

Gypsy Jazzers The Flying Dutchmen are on hiatus at present as our long standing steady gig at the Backstage has been phased out.

I am currently looking for full or part time gigs and willing to sub or ad some extra color for special shows.

Im most interested in Classic Country, western swing,Jazz, roots rock...Americana in general. My preferred instrument is Steel guitar or Dobro but will also consider regular 6 string.

My video selections are from live performances with four of Pittsburgh's finest singer-songwriters- Christian Tritch, Jay Hitt Rick Malis (The Mavens)and Michael Christopher.

The audio selections to your right cover most of the styles I like to play and showcase the instruments mentioned.

Trouble in Mind and Today I Started Loving You feature C6 and E9 pedal steel respectively, as well as lead and rhythm guitars. I also play 8 string dobro on Trouble in Mind.

To Hang me High features Pedal Steel.

Jolynn's PF Flyers(#3)is a song I wrote for my wife featuring Jazz/Funk Electric Guitar and some sreaming overdriven Lap Steel. It also has some of my early attemps at a Faux B3 organ using pedal steel though a Lexicon Rotary patch.I have subsequently updated this sound with an EHX C9 organ sim though a Line 6 Rotary pedal. At this piont its pretty dead on-I've fooled alot of soundmen over the past few years and the guys in the band always love it.

Bubbles In my Beer and Honky Tonk Song are Live with The Mavens with me on Lead Guitar and the Amazing Pete Freeman on Pedal Steel.

Kind of Love/Deep Water and Texas Playboy/Panhandle Rag are both western swing dobro instrumentals.

It Could Happen to You features traditional Jazz guitar and was recorded in my home studio. She's Lookin' Good (R&B guitar with Martin Solomon vocal) was recorded live at the 3 Rivers ArtsFestival in 1988. Bad Way to Go (Rockabilly guitar with Jay Hitt) was recorded live at the CLO Cabaret Theater Square in 2007. Strange is a cut from a Patsy Cline Tribute CD I did with Erin Rhodes.

As a founding member of Pittsburgh's CAPA (Creative and Performing Arts) school, I have over 30 years of experience teaching guitar, guitar ensemble and jazz improvisation. I’m finding it very interesting applying my experience teaching guitar to steel guitar and dobro. At present I'm not taking on any students but if your new to steel guitar and need some help please feel free to call or email.

I am also available for recording sessions,in the studio or e sessions at very reasonable rates.

. Thanks for tuning in and feel free to send comments or questions.
